Phase I
New
Facilities Fund $24,000,000
To build
our new 73,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art research facility
NYS Empire Zone Tax Credits: Hauptman-Woodward
has been awarded an important incentive by New York State as we continue
to raise the resources for our new building and recruit new scientists
to Western New York. This comes in the form of income tax credits which
we are able to pass on to you, our generous donors. In the simplest
of terms, these tax credits are available to individuals and for-profit
corporations, basically any entities that pay tax in New York State. These
credits are worth 25% of any gift amount up to $400,000 that are made
to support our new building. This credit is in addition to the
standard New York State and federal deductions, but is limited to 50%
of your total New York State tax liability. For more information
regarding these tax credits contact Laurie Elliott Krajna at (716) 898-8597.
Phase II
Recruitment
of new Scientists: $13,300,000
In June 2004 the Hauptman-Woodward Board, Staff
and Administration crafted a long range plan. Pared down to its essentials, the plan identified
five initiatives for future success. The first two initiatives
called for the recruitment of new scientists and the identification of
a funding mechanism to underwrite the recruitment process. Our
stated goal was to recruit fourteen new scientists.
In 2005 we successfully recruited three scientists using funds from the
John R. Oishei and Margaret L. Wendt Foundations for start-up costs. Over
the next six years we need to recruit the remaining eleven scientists. The
total costs for start-up, which will be spent out over a nine year time-frame,
will be $13.3 million.
Some of the items in a recruitment package are:
- Salary for the new scientist
- Major Equipment needed to pursue specific research
- Daily operating supplies in the lab
- Post-Doc, Graduate and Summer students to work in the lab
An investment in Hauptman-Woodward is not only
good for the institute but good for Western New York. The investment
of $13.3M in Hauptman-Woodward has the potential for an effective return
of $72M over the 2006-2015 period in economic output for the Buffalo
Niagara region.
