2008 is the 35th Year of our summer intern program. This year we have 24 students, of which 9 are returning for a second year. They come from a variety of colleges and universities, both local – University at Buffalo and  Canisius - and afar – Penn State, Brown, Case Western, Cornell, Grove City College, SUNY at Geneseo, SUNY at Fredonia, SUNY at Cortland, and Washington and Jefferson. The students come for 10 to 14 weeks, work with one mentor and his/her research group on a project. For many it is to test to see if biomedical research is their passion in life.

Many of our interns have gone on to graduate studies in science. Martha Clark (UB, interned in the DeTittta/Luft lab) has been accepted into graduate studies at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.  Rebecca Robilotto (Canisius College, mentored by Barnali Chaudhuri) is finishing her first year in the Yale PhD Program in Computational Biology. Sheena Degnan (SUNY at Fredonia, mentored by Wayne Schultz) is finishing her first year of graduate study at UC Berkeley studying crystallography in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. Kim Wright (SUNY at Geneseo, mentored by Wayne Schultz) received her PhD this year from the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ethan Levin and Carolyn Hogan (Cornell University) are finishing their first year in an MD/PhD program at Washington University in St. Louis. Ethan worked with Andy Gulick and Carolyn worked with Chuck Weeks. Anna Brady (Case Western, Schultz lab) is in the MD/PhD program at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner School of Medicine at Case Western University.
