At the Hauptman-Woodward Institute, we offer customized tours and demonstration lectures that can be geared toward the needs of each particular group of students or other segments of the community.

Our program can include such things as:
  • A slide presentation giving a general overview of the research program and people at HWI
  • Discussion of the techniques and methods used at HWI as well as recent applications and current research initiatives
  • Discussion with select scientists about specific disease areas under investigation including kidney disease, breast cancer, diabetes, thyroid disorders, AIDS related diseases, and others.
  • A summary and history of HWI and our role in the medical research corridor
  • Discussion on the importance of medical research in general and in Western New York
  • Discussion about Dr. Herbert A. Hauptman, our president and Buffalo's Nobel Laureate, as well as the opportunity to meet him and ask questions
  • Opportunity to solve crystallographic problems
  • Opportunity to perform crystallization experiments
  • Opportunity to examine protein structures using computer simulation
  • Tour of the laboratories, observing work being done in the various stages of the structural biology process including molecular biology, crystal growth,X-ray diffraction, and computer simulation/drug design
