SANS Studies of Aluminum Alloys. J. Samseth1, H. Kaya1, B. Anderson2 and J. Tafto3, 1Inst. for energiteknikk, Kjeller, Norway, 2SINTEF, Oslo, Norway, 3Physics dept., Univ. in Oslo
A number of aluminum alloys containing a number of element were studies by Small angle neutron scattering (SANS). The samples were also processed in various ways. SANS spectra were taken with wavelengths that were both above and below the lattice parameter in aluminum. Thus, for the short wavelength, characteristic diffraction crosses were observed in the 2 dimensional spectra. When longer wavelengths were used, small angle scattering was observed. For alloys that contain Zn, the Zn precipitates were determined.
