An anomalous scattering study of local electronic structure in the mixed valence compound Cs2[AuCl2][AuCl4] will be presented along with examples of structure determinations for several very small aluminophosphate crystals prepared in the presence of metal complex templates. The use of anomalous scattering to obtain information similar to that typically gleaned using X-ray absorption spectroscopy, but in a crystallographic site specific fashion will be discussed.
