The geometry of the fragment [M(18-crown-6)]n+ depends not only from size of cation Mn+ but from the nature of the counter anion [1]. Herein we report results of X-ray study of complexes Rb(18c6){X} (X = Ag(CN)2, Au(CN)4, AuCl4) including an unprecedented example of almost perfect fit of the large Rb atom inside the crown ether cavity. The deviation of the Rb atom from the plane of the six oxygen atoms in the tetrachloroaurate(III) complex (linear polymeric array) is only 0.276(2) ?, that is essentially less then the values for Rb(18c6) complexes observed earlier (0.80 to 1.21 ?).
