Resolution of the SAS Phase Ambiguity Given Reliable Triples Estimates and Known Positions of Anomalous Scatterers. D.A. Langs, R.H. Blessing amd D.Y. Guo, Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, 73 High Street, Buffalo, NY 14203

In the past few years a number of strategies have been devised to resolve the SAS phase ambiuity given that unique estimates A(h,k) of the triples phase invariants I(h,k) = øh + øk + øl can be computed from the SAS data. A new least-squares method is described which can indicate the correct choice of SAS phase ambiguity given that unbiased triples estimates are available. Possible limitations of the method in practical applications are discussed.
