Absorption Corrections in the Context of Problem Structures. Larry R. Falvello. University of Zaragoza-C.S.I.C., Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Plaza San Francisco s/n, E-50009 Zaragoza, Spain
A brief overview of absorption correction methods is given. Examples are shown of structure determinations, both routine and problematic, in which several absorption techniques have been applied in order to test their effects and possible differences on the outcomes of the determinations. Examples are given of inappropriate applications of absorption techniques. The diagnostic utility of an a posteriori calculated absorption correction is discussed, with reference to a problematic structure determination. A global conclusion is drawn about the use of absorption corrections in non-routine structure determination.
